Hello 2023!
We started off the year with a very moving and powerful "Watch-Night Service". Pastor Keith encouraged the congregation in his sermon entitled "Not to Faint" to be persistent in pursuing and petitioning the Father and not to quit even when facing dire circumstances. The service was immediately followed up with a full family-styled breakfast complete with bacon, eggs, buttermilk biscuits, grits, fried fish and home made cinnamon rolls.
What is "Watch-Night Service"?
Although there are no historical records regarding its origins Watch-Night is how our denomination (Church of God In Christ) traditionally celebrates the arrival of the New Year. The service usually begins late (often between 10:30-11:00pm) New Year's Eve and continues into the early morning hours. In stark contrast to secular practices, the service is not only celebrative but, it's also intended to be a reverential and prayerful entry into the coming year. Most services conclude with the church family sharing their 1st meal of the new year.
We are looking forward to a wonderful and prosperous 2023.
Happy New Year!!!
